Perfect timing, I'd say. biggrin.gif
"What?", you may ask.
You guys making it to page 30 in the quotes-game, and Eliza pming me about starting this game again!

Most of you are probably still familiar with the game, but I think I'll try to explain it again for those of you who don't know it yet.
It is your task to make up a riddle describing a character from Tolkien's works (Hobbit, LotR, Silmarillion) - neither too easy nor too hard.
The other people will then try to guess who that character is and give reasons for why they think that. The one who answers correctly will get to give the next riddle.

If you don't post a new riddle within the next 4(four) days after the confirmation of your guess, you loose your turn and someone else can continue the game.

Examples for riddles can be found on our homepage.

I'd suggest that Nári can start this, if she wants to, as she was the last person to answer correctly in the other game?

Have fun - I know you will! smile.gif

Maybe life is like rain. Alive if you let it be; lousy and depressing if you don't.

Ooooh, I like that siggy, Eliza! Very nice. biggrin.gif

I wonder .... would it be okay to just 'start' and Nári can join in when she does?

If so.. an easy one... just to get it rolling along:

I taught my son all I know but his warrior's heart wasn't recognized until far away from home.
Who am I?

Faramir because in The Return of the King, he rides to war which is far away from home and then his father realizes his warrior heart.

I cannot think of my own so I picked one off of her website.

When I was told to stay, I went
When I was asked to come, I stayed
I fight though I should not
I heal without knowing
I desired the one I could not have
'Til my heart found the man who would be my true love
Who am I?"

Faramir?

[EDIT]: I'm not asking a question because if I'm wrong, then I'm not allowed to ask a question.

Yes, Ms. Notters but you should also state why you think it is Faramir. In this game you have to say why you think the riddle refers to this/that character.

Interesting riddle, by the way, Tarma. smile.gif

I'm a guy BTW... ohmy.gif I picked the name Merry cause I remember him from the Lord of the Rings..

[On-Topic]: I edited my first post now so it explains why I chose him and my question. Sry.

This is Éowyn
(I'm not exactly sure you should use the ones in the website since they are the ones that were used in the previous topic and therefore have already been quessed. If you try, it really is not that difficult to think some yourself)

When I was told to stay, I went

When she was told to stay back and rule Rohan she secretly went with them.

When I was asked to come, I stayed

When Éomer asked her to come to Pellenor Fields she stayd at Minas Tirith

I fight though I should not

She was the shieldmaiden and was not supposed to fight.

I heal without knowing

Faramir told Éowyn that being with her helped him recover.

I desired the one I could not have

Aragorn

'Til my heart found the man who would be my true love

Faramir

And since I'am 100% sure that I am right, here is my first attempt at a riddle so forgive me if it is too simple:

I am the one with the rosy cheeks
Smiling to many but loving one
One, I had to wait for
Not knowing if he will return
I had thirteen children with him
And we named them after the ones we loved
Who am I?

You are Rose Cotton.

smiling to many but loving one
one I had to wait for

she's in love with Sam but he went away with Frodo without having declared her his love for her. she also never knew whether he would return.

togehter we had thirteen children

well, it is said in the LotR that they had thirteen children, so that was the strongest hint ^^

hey, guys! I finally managed to push RL to the back long enough for me to come back here smile.gif Sorry for the delay ^^;; *bows*

You are absolutely correct smile.gif

I myself thought that the "rosy cheeks" would be the strongest hint

And as it was my first try then I'm especially proud of the "smiling to many" part as it goes to the fact that she works in a tavern and has to be kind (smile) to lots of people.
"named them after the ones we loved" - I hope that you can use it the way I used it meaning not only persons but also flowers that Sam and Rose loved.

Your turn Elnariel biggrin.gif

...

Actually, the answer to my riddle is not Faramir.

Denethor didn't teach his younger son anything that I am aware of, except how much he was so much less than Boromir.

Don't I need to say it is correct before the next person goes on?

Should we then continue with Tarma's riddle, since it hasn't been solved?

Oh, and Aili: feel free to call me Nári ^^ Elnáriel does sound rather formal (and I feel like I've created some mischief tongue.gif)

Mr. Notters, then. Forgive me my mistake. A wise name choice, that is.

As for the game, I must reinforce some rules:
1. You are not to post another riddle until the person who posted the previous one says you're right (Aili's case was different because it was too obvious).
2. Your riddle must be a riddle that hasn't been posted on this board before.

Now, I suggest we go back to Tarma's riddle, since it hasn't been properly answered yet.

Have a good time playing "Who am I?"! biggrin.gif

First, thanks Tarma for the compliment. And thanks to everyone for making this a very interesting way to kick it off!

For Tarma's riddle:
Ok, I'm guessing it's Gaffer, that is Sam's father, Hamfast Gamgee. He taught Sam everything about being a gardener and such and did not know his son's courage until Sam was, obviously, far from home.

That's it, exactly, Eliza!

(And I'd say that the Gaffer had his own share of courage, to be able to speak as he did to the Black Rider!) smile.gif

Your turn.

Darkness is my power
Near the bridge of a mighty tower
All who enter, I ensnare,
In the labyrinth of my lair

Really easy; I have plenty of harder ones!

Ok, I was never good at riddles but...

Is it Shelob, the direct descendant of Ungoliant?
She still lives in her dark lair near the mighty tower of Cirith Ungol.

I am the eldest of those who helped
Those who, in battle, fell.
I was the one who really helped
Because I remembered well.

An ancient knowledge I remembered
And then some lives were saved.
He told me my name was not to forget
From Minas Tirith to the lands where then Sun is set.

Who am I?

My guess is that it is Ioreth. She was the oldest woman who served in the House of Healing and it was she who remembered the old saying: 'the hands of a king are the hands of a healer'.
