Well I have a few favorites. I tend to levitate towards the humorous characters in books and movies, and in this series, I find that Merry and Pipen are the funniest hobbits. They always keep you laughing, but they also show a fun spirit that readers and movie watchers love alike. I know I do. The other two characters that I loved in the movies were Gimli and Legolas! They were always there for Aragorn, and it was just fun to watch the dynamic between the two characters. They come from two different backgrounds and end up very good friends and allies. It is just wonderful to watch!

I definitely go with Merry. It was that, or Pippin, and I generally feel that I like Merry more. I like the fact that he's the more serious of the pair. I also have small issues with almost every other character, so this work wells. >.>;

I've always loved Sam because he's so sweet and heartbreaking, and Pippin because he makes everyone smile. :)

I was extremely dissaponted that Gollum was not there and so I picked Gandalf.
Since I have only just started the first book(but am already hooked)
I do not know alot about all the characters.
Because Gandalf is so like Dumbledore I picked him.He seems wize and powerfull, just like Dumbledore.
And where is Tom Bombadil. He is so funny.

I love Boromir for the fact that he is from the race of man and that he shows the epitome of what man is. We can do such great things, but we are so easily misguided. But in the end he realizes what he did and in his own form of redemption he gave his life to TRY and save Merry and Pippin.

The whole epic story of LOTR is just amazing. It can show the most carnal instincts of what races can do to each other but also the most good and brave in what we can do. Thats why LOTR is my fav. book of all time.

For me, no doubt, the vote goes for Samwise. He is totally the uncredited hero of the whole scenario. If it weren't for Sam, the good guys would have lost.

i completely agree with you, frodo would never have made it without sam!

What? Glorfindel isn't on here!?
Isn't it bad enough Arwen stole his entire part in the movies?

He is one of the mightly of the firstborn! An Elf-lord of a house of princes!
We must not forget him!

As I was reading Fellowship of the Ring in sixth grade, I experienced for the first time a phenomenon that has since occurred several times. I read the name "Strider," and instantly knew that I liked this character, without any further explanation of who he was or what part he would play in the story. I simply knew that I liked him. He quickly became my favorite character, and remains as such to this day. This phenomenon of instantaneous love of a character has, as I said, happened several times more in my literary experience, and occasionally in visual media as well. Sirius Black is a relevant example. I fell in love with him from the moment I read the Muggle news report of his escape, from the very moment I read his name. The same is true of Aragorn. From the very moment I read his name (or pseudonym if you will) I became an avid fan of Middle-Earth's most beloved Ranger.

Legolas, he's so gracious. But I like Aragorn too.

Arwen, of course.

She's beautiful, she's an elf and she's in love with Aragorn, a very sandly love storu until the end of the books (she's immortal, he's mortal... *OMG*).

But I love both Gimli and Legolas, with their crazy friendship!

From the time I watched the Fellowship of the Ring movie, it has always been Legolas! Orlando Bloom really fit the character. Too bad that he's not much told in the books. But I favor him anyway!

I think Gimli is a cute store. Although he is dwarfs that seem ridiculous, but I like it. In the movie and the book (of course) illustrated that he was happy to fight and stubborn.
Coupled with his feud with the elves, especially Legolas. (. hihihihi.) brings the scene itself is quite interesting to me ..

Actually my faves are Tom Bombadil, Fangorn and Éowyn, but since only Éowyn is on the pool I voted for her.
She's the only female character I bond with, she's smart, tough, assertive, independent, strong-willed, decent, ... She's simply fantastic!

Faramir is my fave, but I love Eowyn too. Obviously, they are the most perfect couple in my eyes.

Samwise is my favorite, his loyalty always moves me to tears - a true friend. Eowyn is probably a close second.

My favorite characters are all of the humorous ones. My favorites are probably Merry, Pippin, and Gimli. They all brought a lighter mood to the story than all of the more serious characters did.
