As I was reading Fellowship of the Ring in sixth grade, I experienced for the first time a phenomenon that has since occurred several times. I read the name "Strider," and instantly knew that I liked this character, without any further explanation of who he was or what part he would play in the story. I simply knew that I liked him. He quickly became my favorite character, and remains as such to this day. This phenomenon of instantaneous love of a character has, as I said, happened several times more in my literary experience, and occasionally in visual media as well. Sirius Black is a relevant example. I fell in love with him from the moment I read the Muggle news report of his escape, from the very moment I read his name. The same is true of Aragorn. From the very moment I read his name (or pseudonym if you will) I became an avid fan of Middle-Earth's most beloved Ranger.
