Hello everyone!
Summer's here and everyone's got a lot of free time, so what if we all play a game?
This game's called "Who am I?" and it's very simple to explain how it is played.

The game will be based on characters from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. However, as those who will join us in this game might not have read the books, we'll start by using the characters that appear on the movies made by Peter Jackson. Only when most characters from the movies have been covered will we start using other characters from the books, ok?

So this is how it is played:

I'll pick a character from LOTR and then I'll write a short description (one to one and a half lines) of that character as if I was describing myself. E.g. "I was born in the Shire. I used to work as a gardner but...." Of course, this one is too obvious, but it is just an example. I'll end my description with the question. "Who am I?"

Your job is to find out who I am. If you know the answer, you just have to post it: "You are ..." If your answer is correct, then it's your turn to make a new description!
Please note: You should only post your answer if it hasn't been posted before. If your oppinion is different from the ones that were already posted, then
you can go ahead and post your answer! This is about being quick too!

IMPORTANT: If a day has passed and no one has guessed who you were describing, you should post an additional hint, which should consist of no more than
a line.

HOLTSOMs: If you are a holtsom, you'll get 5 silmarils for each answer you got right.

Good Luck!,

The Holtstaff.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy one to start with...

I was born in Valinor, but I came to Middle-earth in the First age. I ruled Laurelindórennan but now I've returned to my birthplace.
Who am I?

Ok, so not so sure its that easy but I'm guessing Elrond, seems to at least kind of fit!
(Ok, so I'm now leaning to agree with Moraine, at least I got an elf though! tongue.gif )

You are... definitely Galadriel.

She with the rest of the Noldor crossed over the seas from Valinor to Beliriand, 'Laurelin' was the name of one of the trees, the tree of gold to be precise. And the mallorn trees in Lothlorien, impressively enough, have gold leaves. smile.gif And we all know that at the end of the Third Age, Galadriel passed over the Seas.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not completely sure concerning the Laurelindórennan. (I added the explanation too to explain why I thought it was her)

You are... correct!
About Laurelindórennan: In the Two Towers, there's a part when Treebeard is telling Merry and Pippin about Lothlórien and he calls it Laurelindórennan. When I read that I found that name so funny that I never forgot it!

The Encyclopedia of Arda wrote:Laurelindórenan
‘Land of the Valley of Singing Gold’

A name for the land more commonly known as Lórien, the Golden Wood of Celeborn and Galadriel. It was an older name of that land, but not entirely forgotten; both Treebeard and Faramir still used the old name freely.

Now it's your turn, Rai smile.gif

Okay then! (and you'll have to forgive me for the late reply. HBP got in the way wink.gif)

This one is a bit easy in itself.

I was born with a beauty that only once before came,
Dwelt many a year before being taken by love's flame.
Cerin Amroth is where I I faced my doom,
And East of the Sea, elanor and niphredil no longer bloom.

(I like poems. Sue me happy.gif)

Edit: Score one for Ruben who got the answer right biggrin.gif *hands him a cookie*

Well... that's a very very good one, Rai biggrin.gif

QUOTE
I was born with a beauty that only once before came,
The beauty of Lúthien Tinuviel, to whom she was compared.

QUOTE
Dwelt many a year before being taken by love's flame.
Well... she was 2710 years old when she met the love of her life, so I believe you can say that yes biggrin.gif

QUOTE
Cerin Amroth is where I I faced my doom,
She met him in Cerin Amroth, in Lothlórien. Because she met him, she faced her doom because she ended giving up her immortality to be with him.

QUOTE
And East of the Sea, elanor and niphredil no longer bloom.
When she chose to be with him, Elanor, the sun-star, and niphredil, a flower type in lórien, were no longer shining in Middle-earth (east of the sea) due to the rising power of the land of Mordor.

For all that, I believe you are talking about Arwen Undómiel. smile.gif

I loved a beauty like no other
Whose voice was pure and clear
But by water clear and cool I left her
To go to haven grey.
A wind then came and blew me and my ship far from her
I tried to find my love
But was never heard from again.

Forgive my bad poetry.

yes, you are, assja. smile.gif

@eleanor: it wasn't your turn. ruben guessed the right answer to the one before, so it would have been his turn.
we also wanted to go through the movie-characters first before we continued with characters from the books, so amrod wasn't within the guidelines at this point, strictly speaking.
but nevermind that now, i think ruben won't mind too much, and it's just great to have people participating in this! smile.gif

Maybe life is like rain. Alive if you let it be; lousy and depressing if you don't.

The great grandson of Luthien and the Herald of Ereinion??

You must be the wise Lord Elrond of Rivendell, father of the Eveningstar and the Herald of Gil-Galad!

Hi!
That's right! Ereinion is Gilgalad's father-name by the way.

OK, this should be easy...

I have to fill the place of two
I am the child of madness and beauty
The pupil whose father did not want me to learn
My wife is the wild, white lady of the lands of grass

I have to fill the place of two

When his brother died/left for Imladris, he was expected to take up his fallen brother's role in protecting Osgiliath and Minas Tirith.

I am the child of madness and beauty

He is the youngest son of Denethor, who went mad nearing the end of the Siege of Minas Tirith, and Finduilas of Dol Amroth, who was renouned for her gentle beauty.

The pupil whose father did not want me to learn

I think there was a missing word here, but he is called the 'wizard's pupil' by his father, referring to his close affiliation to Gandalf, with whom Denethor is on rather cool terms with.

My wife is the wild, white lady of the lands of grass

This clinched who this is for me. His wife was Eowyn Dernhelm, Lady and Shieldmaiden of Rohan.

You are the Lord Faramir, Steward of Gondor and Prince of Ithilien. biggrin.gif

Hahaha Rachel beat me to it ^^;; *lets her have it*

That is exactly right, Rachel! (And Moiraine wink.gif )

There was no word missing, I just thought "wizard's pupil" was too obvious, but I did think about putting it in, and you guessed it anyway biggrin.gif ! (Quite proud of myself now, I usually never let anyone see it, if I try to make a poem, but this seems to have worked smile.gif )

Your turn, Rachel... wink.gif

I came to Middle-earth in the Third Age as one of the Istari. I was considered very wise, and people came to me for advice.

Hi!
Are you Saruman? He was counted as one of the wisesest, is an Istari and he has a place of residence where you could actually go to, wheras Gandalf was wandering all the time.
