Week Two – Azerbaijan

Postby Maxim Trevelyan » Mon Jul 09, 2018 12:01 am

Bordering Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, Azerbaijan is a lovely country whose beginnings go back to the Stone Age.

It has beautiful parks, such as Upland Park, Dagustu Park and Philharmonic Fountain Park, all in Baku, its capital, while other out-of-city sights are more in tune with nature, like Mud Volcanoes and Gobustan Rock Art. In 2012, Azerbaijan also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. Ever since, Azerbaijani Muggles never won it again, but the wizards had more luck. We will arrive into the country just in time for the Wizarding Song Contest!

They gave us the option to participate during half-time and it is your job to make up a song (or poem) that has to do with magic, fit for the world stage. It must be 15 or more lines long and of your own creation, as well as adhere to all HOL rules. If you want, you can make a song to an already existing beat.

Post your song or poem as a reply to this thread by September 2nd, 11:59 pm HOL time and earn 25 Hoots and 10 beans! Alternatively, if you do not wish for your submission to be posted for everyone to see, send it to me via HOL Forum message (Subject: BrtW – Azerbaijan) by the same due date.

Look around, what do you see?
A small little monkey climbing a tree!
Abracadabra, abra-ca-do,
now it becomes a chair that is blue!

I can do so many wonders,
I have so many tricks!
Watch very closely,
and listen to this!

Gather around, what do you hear?
A roaring river is flowing near!
Abracadabra, abra-ca-do,
that river now sounds like a cow going moo!

I can do so many wonders,
I have so many tricks!
Watch very closely,
and take a sniff at this!

Gather around, what do you smell?
A bunch of flowers all over the dell.
Abracadabra, abra-ca-do,
those flowers now smell of yummy beef stew!

Something is shining in the sky,
something so bright,
something so small,
something really beautiful.

It is a star!
A magnificent star that is a source of magic.
And there in the sky,
the sparkles are fading,
the magic is dying.

Night is going to be over soon!
Magic will disappear into our dreams,
and rest till the next sleep.

At night magic is for everyone,
muggles are casting spells in their dreams,
muggle children are playing with unicorns,
and there is always peace at the dream world.

I left my wand on the counter
my wife called me and cried for an hour
"your mind is elsewhere, baby"
I think she thinks I'm going crazy

Last week I "forgot" my broom
on a business trip to ol' Cancun
She called me a forgetful wizard
I fell asleep thinking "I don't miss her"

It's not easy being Muggle-born
But I'd be lying if I said I was torn
I prefer the Muggle way of life
Dear friend, please don't tell my wife

You see, I knew where I left the broom
You don't need one in ol' Cancun
And I don't always need my wand
Not when I'm going fishing in a pond

It's not easy being Muggle-born
But I'd be lying if I said I was torn
I prefer the Muggle way of life
Dear friend, please don't tell my wife
