Week 2 - Book Launch

Postby Prof. Tarma Amelia Black » Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:33 am

Several authors have chosen to launch their latest books at the Hogsmeade Literary Festival this year. Another festival attendee is interested to know which book launch you attended. Write up the details of the author (this can be an existing author or someone you have made up) and a blurb of their new book.

Send your Book Launch write-up to us at hol.bookclub @ gmail.com (without the spaces) with the subject line ‘Week 2 - Book Launch - HOL ID’ by November 12th, 11:59pm HOL time. You will earn 10 points for your Book Launch submission. Please be sure that it is at least 150 words long for full points.

Remember to include your HOL name, ID and House in the body of the email! Note: We'll be posting your submission in the HOL Forum after the due date unless you tell us otherwise in your submission.

Cassandra Jackson was born in 1971 to parents Margaret and Thomas Jackson. She grew up surrounded by litterature, since both her parents worked in the industry: her father as a publisher and her mother as a lecturer at the local college. So ever since Cassandra was a young girl she was encouraged to read a lot and form her own opinion about it. She truly thrived on this and when she was old enough she went on to study literature and later become an author herself.

She has written three books already , as well as a number of shortstories and poems in various anthologies.

She is a true artist of the craft and we look very much forward to launching her book at this festival.

The Glimmer Within

Ever since she was young, Emely knew there was something different about her. Her mother said it was because of the gift she carried; the gift to see the truth in others.
Emely didn't know what she meant though, only that others were uncomfortable around her and the other children refused to play with her.
But one day, she saw something that changed her forever.
She saw something she should not have seen.

But what do you do with that kind of secret; keep it a secret and cover up a murder, or tell and risk causing harm to everyone you ever cared for.
Not an easy choice for anyone to make, and especially not for a shy 15 year old girl.

I have decided to attend a book launch of a prolific author of Muggle literature, Jim Jones. He has more than 100 written books to his name and has just launched a first book in a series, titled Broken Dreams.

Blurb: Maria Isabelle, who just turned fifteen, is as Ordinary as one could be. She has two loving parents who adore her, a younger sister who is constantly competing with her, and a Golden Retriever called Spot who obeys her every command. However, in Maria's world, being an Ordinary is not appreciated. Everybody has at least one superpower and better the power, better your chances to advance in society, regardless of your background. Sick of being bullied for no abilities, Maria decides to fight for her and other Ordinary rights, no matter what it takes.

Jones' book launch had a very intimate feel to it what with dimmed lights and a smaller number of attendees. He took some questions from the guests and outlined where this particular book series is going, confirming that we will get at least three books, if not more. Jones said that he got the idea behind the book from his own experiences in the wizarding world as a Squib. He had no magical ability in the world where that matters significantly. He was also bullied by strangers and family alike, before he decided to take his life back and moved to a major city, where almost no one knows him. Besides being an author, Jim Jones is also a fighter for Squib and Muggleborn rights in his wizarding community.

I attended Professor Minerva McGonagall’s new book launch titled “Transfiguring the Untransfigurable”. After dedicating most of her life teaching and directing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor McGonagall has decided to launch her career as an author with a book that contains her most recent investigation in the Transfiguration field. This book is a jewel because it contains some new incantations and spells that Professor McGonagall herself invented and that allows aspiring and experimented witches and wizards to develop better Transfiguration skills.

Professor McGonagall’s book is filled with charts and complex formulas that are very well explained and made easy to understand, after all, Prof. McGonagall’s years and years of teaching experience have paid off and she certainly knows how to make learning easier. This book also contains lots of drawings and illustrations as well as an exclusive bottle with a memory that you can see if you have a pensieve and that will lead you to an exclusive transfiguration lesson.

Attending this book launch was a great experience. I’m a fan of Professor McGonagall and it was so good to meet her and have my new copy of her book signed! Plus, by the end of the launch, Professor McGonagall offered a presentation of her new Transfiguration spells. Simply magical!

I was most excited to attend the book launch of Lunacy by the popular werewolf rights activist Jaci Blakesley and she didn't disappoint! Jaci has always loved the outdoors. She often goes on week-long hikes, tackling tough mountain terrain. One night, when was 23 years old, Jaci was nearing the conclusion of her longest trek to date. There was a full moon and she was attacked by werewolves. Jaci managed to escape from the pack, but not without harm. She was bitten on the ankle and became a werewolf herself. Jaci is always eager to share her story. She is among the most vocal female werewolf in the wizarding community. When she is not hiking or campaigning for werewolf rights, Jaci resides in Northamptonshire with her husband and two sons.

Lunacy

Avid hiker and werewolf activist Jaci Blakesley finally has her transforming story on paper. She shares everything from the initial bite to her inner struggle and ultimate acceptance of lycantrophy. Her coping mechanisms during the full moon are certainly nothing to howl at!

Marticia Jones is a new author that will be visiting this year's Hogsmeade Literary Festival. She had previously released her first book titled Margot's Quidditch Rumor which is the first book to her brand new series. The second book to her series, which is being launched at this festival, is titled When the Snitch Disappears.

When the Snitch Disappears is another book centered around Margot and the Ravenclaw quidditch team at Hogwarts. Margot's team has become the victim of a prank gone awry and their seeker has been blamed for it. Margot must do what she can to solve the mystery so the real culprit is found and the snitch who lied brought to justice before the season starts, otherwise, Ravenclaw will be without a seeker. Margot's first guess is that the culprit and snitch may be the same person and is probably on an opposing team that wishes to have a head start this season.

If you love mystery books, this book sounds like it would be an excellent choice, and I am excited to continue on my adventures with Margot after reading the first book. I am hooked.

The author I will be talking about is Isabis Imani (a character I made up). He is African and he is the author of the book titled "Lizard's Claws from Africa." Isabis attended magical wizarding education in Uagadou and had the best time in his education when the school had the one-month trip to the African savannah. He especially is interested on the lizard species. He took notice of the cockatrice and studied the combination of the rooster and lizard characteristics of the creature.

He wrote one of his most popular books "Lizard Claws from Africa" when he was trapped in the savannah after it rained hard. He then proceeded to live in the cave coincidentally where a family of lizards live. The book discussed the lizard's biology and magical attributes. A certain chapter talked about a potion made from the lizard, enhancing the creature's adaptive characteristics to the potions. The book also discussed the different spells needed whenever a lizard is encountered.

The book launch was held at the second day in the African part of the festival. Isabis Imani is just one of the many African authors present in the festival.
