I've seen a lot of interesting names here lately, and I have no idea how to pronounce half of them.wink.gif Plus, there has been some confusion on how to pronounce my name *cough*Malien the Alien*cough*, so I just thought I'd clear that up.

First of all, my name does not rhyme with "alien." It sounds more like this:

Ma (rhymes with "pa" or "ah" or "la")
li (rhymes with "lee" or "see")
en (rhymes with "hen" or "pen")

So if I put it together, it sounds like Mah-lee-en. The stress is on the "mah."

Now, Clementielle is a whole other story. I wanted it to sound French, and part of the name is French so it sounds something like this:

Cle (sounds like the "re" in "ready" and it also sounds like the "e" in "bread", best representation is the "cle" in "cleft")

men (if you know French then you should know how it sounds, if you don't, then the closest sound I can give you is that it sounds like the "Mon" in Monty.)

tie (pronounced like "tee")

elle (rhymes with "bell")

So if I put this all together, it sounds like Cleh-mon-tee-ell.

So my full name is pronounced:
Mah-lee-en Cleh-mon-tee-ell

It's much easier to pronounce if you speak French.

Yeesh! This post was long. I hope I haven't confused anyone...wink.gif

So what do your names sound like?

Malien. Your name is way too many syllables long. x_X

Oh, and obviously:

Hai- as in, "Hey" or "hay" if you prefer.

Ley- as in, "Lee"

Paris, as in "Pair" - "is"

And not the French sounding, "Pa"-"ree".

Heath = as in Heather. It is not pronounced like the boys name, or the candy. It is like the first part of "leather", or "feather", or "heather". And yes, I am female. That seems to be a common mistake. o_O For some reason.

I don't think my name is hard.

Dar - rhymes with "are"
lene - like "lean"

Baker - "bay" with "er"

Some people have trouble with my Muggle name. Its Shanna. Like Shannon. Shann-uh. My name not exotic but I know how you guys feel. I get "Shay-na," "Shawn-na," "Sha-nia," etc. Its comes from a book. I will never name my kid "Hermione."

Ouu, what an interesting topic! *realizes she's been pronouncing Fatmeh's name wrong all along* Oops.

Mine name is another pretty easy to pronounce one. Claire rhymes with chair, carebear, etc. and Silverthorne is sil (rhyming with ill or pill), ver (rhyming with her or brurrr!), and thorne (rhyming with corn or scorn) with the accent on the first syllable. smile.gif

~pats herself on the back for pronouncing Malien's name right~ I always knew there was a reason I was taking French smile.gif

Ka as is the sound a crow makes (rhymes with la)
di would be "dee" (to rhyme with flea)
ah sounds just like when you have a togue compressor (also rhymes with la)

I figure "Bryll" is fairly easy, just like it looks (like the beginning of "brilliant")

mine's kinda simple... but i'll post it just in case! this post is awesome! i'm surprised nobody started this earlier.....

Ah-lex-ah (not ah-lex-ee-ah or ah-lex-ya or whatever. it bugs me to no end when people add the "ee" sound to my name!)

Grain (like the food)-jur (like the beginning of the word jury)

i hope that's easy for everyone who didn't get it before, if there is anyone that is... (fatmeh, i've been pronouncing your name wrong! omg!)

Air: like the word
E: bright
May: like the month

But, alas. There is a loophole. Aire is not prounced Air-E. It's just like the word/element. And Airey is pronoucned Aire-E. Get it? Good.

Speare sounds like the weapon.

Miss (as in the word)
uh - as in the sound.

All this equals Missa.

Matz (prounced like matts)
