Week 2: Magical Sports

Postby Kim Alting » Mon Aug 08, 2016 11:17 am

I see you have found your way through the labyrinth. Please step this way, campers, and committee member Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington will escort you to your next activity - the Headless Hunt!

The Headless Hunt is made up of ghosts that have lost their heads. Each Headless Hunt includes Head Polo, Headless Bowling, and Horseback Head-Juggling. Unfortunately, Sir Nicholas is unable to participate in these activities, but he has graciously agreed to assist you in the first ever Headless Hunt that will involve living beings.

Head Polo

During Head Polo, each team tries to whack ghost heads into goals using mallets. Once we have enough participants we will organize everyone into teams and begin the game...

Oh, dear. It appears that no one realized the Headless Hunt was supposed to occur today at the campsite. Unfortunately, we do not have enough ghosts to play Head Polo, but perhaps if we could make a poster advertising the Headless Hunt, we could attract enough attention to play..

Create a poster advertising the Headless Hunt! (Max. 600×600) Please include the location (HOLLERS campsite) and date (August 8th -31st) so the ghosts will be able to find us easily! We'll even give you 20 Hoots for your efforts.

Headless Bowling

Now that we have enough ghosts, we can move onto our next activity in the Headless Hunt - Headless Bowling! Headless Bowling is very similar to regular bowling with the exception that instead of bowling balls, you use heads! Sir Nicholas will find a head that fits your hand nicely...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, the heads are quite talkative. Some of these ghosts haven't seen a living being in years, after all, and they are quite eager to share their story. In fact, some of them have very interesting tales to tell...

What did your ghost tell you about their death? Tell us how your ghost lost their head in a post consisting of no less than 100 words. In exchange, you can earn 20 Hoots for sharing their story.

Horseback Head-Juggling

It is now time for the last activity in the Headless Hunt, Horseback Head-Juggling. The horses will arrive soon and you will be able to juggle ghost heads while riding on a horse. Please wait while Sir Nicholas explains the rules...

Uh-oh. We've encountered a problem. It appears that we do not have enough ghost heads to go around. It seems that we will have to devise another sport to play instead. But that shouldn't be a problem, I'm sure you are quite capable...

It's time to design your own sport for the Headless Hunt! Remember, your sport must involve ghost heads in some way. Please draw/make a graphic detailing your Headless Hunt sport, and include a small paragraph of least 50 words describing your new sport (size max. 600x600). You can earn 20 Hoots for this.

That's it for the Headless Hunt! Please thank the Headless Hunt members for allowing you to participate and, of course, your guide Sir Nicholas. Remember, all of the tasks are due by August 31st, 11:59pm HOL time!

#2 While bowling, i got to meet Sir Tainley Knotgawn! Sir Knotgawn told me the REAL story of how he tragically lost his head in the summer of 1206. He was out with a young woman he was courting, touring his father's estate on horseback. After about an hour of meandering around the gardens they heard the dinner bell. She nudged her horse into a fast trot and yelled "race you!" as she passed him. He sped his horse up and followed behind her when the horse reared up, spooked by a stray cat. Sir Knotgawn fell off his horse, breaking several ribs. His lady looked back, saw he wasn't behind her, and circled back. As soon as she found him she went for help. His father's men came and carried him up to the house. A few weeks later he was mending and his father's estate was raided. He was in no condition to fight, but what kind of coward lays in bed? He went to grab a sword from the display on the wall, but as he pulled it down another one came loose and chopped his head clean off! His family later found his body and thought he had valiantly lost his head while fighting the invaders. He's only told a few living souls since (you didn't hear this from me!)

Can't do Horseback Head-Juggling? I give you Headless Air Hockey! Much like standard-air hockey, the goal is to hit the puck into your opponent's slot, but instead of a puck its a ghost head! (you can use a standard size hockey table though as the head will still go through the slot.) The paddles are magically protected so the ghost heads can't go through them. The hardest part of the game will be keeping the head from floating off the table while you're playing!

The Sad Tail of Felonious Felicix
(as translated by Peeves so you don't know how much to trust it)

Mewooowwww meowww marroowwww meowwwwowwww MRRRRR GROWL.
I was just sitting minding my own business and grooming my tail. Did you know that a tail if properly groomed can make a cat look twice as large and four times as scary? It's true! Well, as I was saying, I was grooming my tail. This was in the Greenhouses, Greenhouse 3 to be precise, when a troupe of students came into the room with their pruning shears. Naturally I ignored them. I'm a cat, after all. What business does a cat have giving attention to a bunch of young wizards and witches? So I'm grooming my tail and the Professor in charge of the class set them to pruning Abyssinian Shrivelfigs. With those great big pruning shears. Some of those shears were as large as the smaller of the students. They got closer and closer to me, so I went to continue my grooming (having moved on to my leg by now) over by the Fanged Geraniums. The Geraniums and I had an agreement -- they wouldn't bite me and I wouldn't shred them to pieces. This agreement worked out just fine -- until -- one of the younger students approached the Geranium, pruning shears in hand, and proceeded to trim it back! I straightened out and yowled loudly to the teacher -- LOOK AT THIS IDIOT! but the idiot cut me off mid-yowl by snipping off my head! GROWL

2. Clementine Darlington, whose head I used for Headless Bowling, tells me that she had been reading a book while leaning against a large tree when she heard a buzzing noise. Absorbed in the book and certain that the noise was coming from bees of some sort, she ignored the noise, even as it got louder and louder. As it turns out, the noise was coming from a chainsaw, which neatly beheaded her after it had cut through the tree she was leaning against. The book she had been reading had been a thrilling tale of adventure and she had wanted to know how it ended, so she chose to remain behind as a ghost to finish the book (and many others after it).

Nutty Putter requires each player to have a golf club and a head of their own. Two teams are formed, and each person’s objective is to move their head as close to the bull’s eye of the target drawn on the ground as possible, while knocking the heads belonging to the opposing team further away from the bull’s eye, or, if possible, out of the target altogether. Points are scored according to how close one’s head is to the bull’s eye at the end of the game. A head in the innermost yellow circle scores 10 points, a head in the yellow ring next to it scores 9 points, and so on down to a head in the outermost white ring, which scores 1 point. A head that’s not within the target at all scores 0 points. The winning team is the team with the highest number of points when the game is finished.

As I was getting set up for my round of bowling, Paedrag O'Shaugnessy insisted on telling his tale of blood, guts and glory. Or so he likes to tell it. On a dark, cloudy night, Paedrag and his band of rowdy Scotsmen were on a cattle raid. As they were setting loose the animals, a loud cry rose over the moor. The cattle in question were startled and proceeded to panic. Paedrag and his men attempted to quiet the animals to no avail. As they were attempting to hastily escape before getting caught, Paedrag's sword belt snagged on the fencing. Paedrag was pulled from his horse and slammed to the ground, where he was immediately stomped on by horse and cow. As he slowly picked himself up, his toe hit the sword tip and flipped it into the air. He raised his hand in a vain effort to catch the family broadsword but his hand was not what caught it. The sword sliced clean through his neck and buried itself in in the ground. Needless to say, stealing cattle doesn't pay.

How about a round of Headless Hoops instead?
Teams of 3 are decided and 3 hoops of differing sizes are set up 100 feet away. Two people hold the ends of a slingshot and the third aims and slings the head towards the hoops. The smallest hoop in the middle is worth 100 points, the outside left hoop is 50 points and the outside right is worth 25. Each team gets 5 shots towards the hoops. The team with the most points wins.

Dorelei that one of the best posters I've see on here or off of here. The picture matches the background and the words go perfect with it too. In fact it was so good I had to save it so I can look at it even after this post goes away. Nice job.

Aurelia you also did a great job. Even if my personal favorite right now is Dorelie.

To all others so far nice job there are a few small things I'd change to make them look even better, but I'm no judging these so if you want advice you just going to have to ask me through pm or chat if you see me around. *evil laugh*

I don't have great graphics tools but here goes!
1. Image
2. My ghost was named Lady Elaine of the Lake. Her story is one of tragedy. She and her husband live alone, high in the mountains. They were a happy couple, a union of the magic and muggle world. They lived in peace and seclusion, until word of her magic reached the villagers below. They stormed the couple modest home, and drug her to a cliff overlooking a lake, the towns only source of water. She refused to harm them, conceding to her fate. As the kicked the stool from beneath her, she jumped towards the edge. The force of gravity pulled her body clean away from her head, and the villagers watched as she fell into the water below. Her husband, beside himself in his grief, built a small hut beside the water to be with her as she haunted it. Until his final days, when he joined her.
3.Image
The game I have created is headless tic tac toe. The ghosts divide into two two and play on an enchanted tic tac toe board. The rules are the same as the muggle game: the first team to score three heads in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally), wins! The team will flip a galleon to see who goes first and then the teams will alternate until the game ends.

2. The death story is here..........
During the first wizarding war, dark lord used his dominance to take control over the beast world as well as the ghost world to capture the wizarding world. With his enormous dark power he became capable of conquering the ghost world almost totally except a few. There are legendary ghosts present at that time having great magical skills and powers. They were capable to defend some of the powers of the dark lord and thus preventing him to engulf the total ghost world. They fought to their last blood. Voldemort planned to cut their head off from their body so that they can't restrict him further in future. My ghost Sir James was also hanged from a pole and his neck was cut using "sectum sempra"........... But till today he is very famous not only in the ghost world but also in the wizarding world for his sheer bravery......

3. The game story is here........

This will be the game to decide the winner for this amazing HEADLESS HUNT festival!!!! Yaa, it’s a festival for the gamers ..........
Heads of the two finalists are doubled and used to make a final challenge for them. Now, they are challenged to solve the following to get back their property…their heads…
There are 3 boxes having 3 sets A, B and C.
Box “A” contains one head, box “B” contains one head and box “C” contains both the heads…
But each box is wrongly named.
Each of the finalists are given a chance to see only one box and now they have to judge the correct heads behind the wrongly named boxes….
FORGET THE HEAD USE YOUR MIND!!!!

The rules of Headless Beach Volleyball are essentially the same as Beach Volleyball except a team is comprised of two players, one who must be a headless ghost and the other, a living being. Once the ghost head is hit by the server, each team must be within its own court but there are no set positions. Teams switch ends of the court and the ghost head in play after every 7 points (set 1 and 2) and 5 points (set 3) played. A set is won by the first team to reach 21 points (15 points in the deciding final set) with a two-point advantage. The first to win two sets wins the match.
