October - Dictionary Day

Postby Maxim Trevelyan » Sun Oct 01, 2017 6:32 pm

October 16th marks the birth of Noah Webster, an American lexicographer, and one of the fathers of widely used Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Did you know that the first dictionary ever was written by Protagoras of Abdera in Ancient Greece, 5th century B.C.? It was a compilation of difficult words that people could encounter in the writings of Homer.

To complete this challenge, I want you to pick your favorite (or random) word from the dictionary and write a poem of any kind about it, at least 10 lines long. Make sure your word, and your poem, abide by all HOL rules.

For 15 Hoots and 15 beans, post your poem as a reply to this thread by October 31st 11:59 PM HOL time at the latest.
Thank you Dario!

(Word used: Sky)

Hi Sky
Sky Hi

Oh can you tell me why
Oh why does the blue bird fly
So high in the sky

Near the sun so hot
Like a hot dot
That shines a lot

Up high
No why?

(Dedicated and helped a little by our wonderful Sky Alton.)
