May Prompt: On This Day...

Post by Sky Alton » Wed May 02, 2018 5:08 pm

We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter’s the One,
And Voldy’s gone mouldy, so now let’s have fun!
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

It’s the 20th anniversary of The Battle of Hogwarts today. This is a pivotal event for the Harry Potter series and more importantly, the wizarding world.

To celebrate this momentous anniversary, please write a story (200 words or more) about a famous fictional event of your own creation. It doesn’t have to be a battle, it could be anything that had an impact on a fictional world. You’ll earn 20 beans for completing this prompt as well as it counting towards the chance to snag our shiny Quill and Ink award.

There is no deadline as such for these prompts but if you’d like it to count towards your chance of earning the award for a specific year, we’ll need it by the end of that school year. If you’re comfortable sharing, then post below. If not, email your story to us via hol.bookclub @ (without the spaces). Oh and remember it’s a good idea to check through your piece carefully for spelling and grammatical errors as they make it harder for people to properly enjoy your work.

The world was struck in awe at the colors in the sky. The hues changing from opalescent blue to rose quartz pink then to burning gold and emerald green and finally from glittering orange to iridescent purple. The magic was strong tonight in the air and in the trees as the wind blew through the people who stood there watching the progression from the heavens.

The clouds opened up and there she was. Their goddess appearing in all her grandeur and beauty before the souls that had been lost and found again. It was a miraculous day for all and one no one would soon forget. The gateway had been opened and angels fell from the sky, a musical symphony upon their lips. The birds joined in the chorus and soon the people and nature sung as one.

She descended slowly down the stairway to the ground and smiled at those before her and welcomed them into her loving arms. It was the Promised Day, the day where the sun, earth and moon aligned, a lunar eclipse like no other where the blood from the land evaporated and soaked the celestial skies, swelling the moon as if it were giving birth to a new world, and what a new world it would be.

As the magic in the air rescinded, the goddess began to take her leave as she cleared the blood from the moon and made all right again with the world. Again, the people watched amazed to witness such an extraordinary event. And then soon, all disappeared into the blackened night.
