Yes, it is that time of the year again! With the upcoming Holidays, what better way to spend your free time than reading all those marvelous books you’ve been dying to read for a while? Find the coziest place in your room, maybe take some hot chocolate and cookies, set your goal, grab your books and get to read! If you do fine, by the end of the Challenge you will find a nice surprise added to your Treasures!
So, how does the 2017/18 Winter Reading Challenge
works? At the end of this post you can pledge the amount of books you think you will be able to read between December 10th, 2017 and January 28th, 2018.
You can pledge as many books you want, from 1 book to 5 or more, you decide how many books you want to read in this period of time. Set your goal realistically and if you achieve it, you will earn the Winter Reading Challenge Winner award!
Excited? Then, please start pledging now! Just take into consideration the following before you do it:
1. Once you pledge your amount of books, you CAN’T
reduce your pledge. That is why we are asking you to please pledge realistically the number of books you think you will be able to read.
2. However, If you are doing fine and realize you can read more books than the ones you pledged, it is OK to raise your pledge
to a higher number.
3. On-line fanfiction is not allowed,
but you can surely re-read a book, listen to an audio book or read a graphic novel.
4. In order for your book to count towards the Winter Reading Challenge, you’ll need to post something a
round the Book Club of at least 80 words.
This doesn't have to be just a series of reviews: you might present a new author in The Bookshelf
or start a conversation about something more general you noticed in several books in Between the Pages
. If someone has already started a topic about your book, author or subject, please contribute to that rather than starting a brand new one of your own. Also, make sure the review or discussion is yours and based on your own thoughts while reading: lifting a review from Goodreads or elsewhere on the internet is categorically not allowed. Please read the respective overview posts before posting.
5. If you’d like to re-read
one of the Harry Potter books or tackle one of the books we have read as part of our Monthly Book Discussions, then please feel free. However, we would prefer you to read another book as well as that one and post a discussion rather than a review.
6. If you are also completing the Book Bingo challenge,
please keep in mind that the same book CAN’T count
for both Book Bingo and the Winter Reading Challenge.
7. Finally, once you have made a post about a book, it is important that you please edit your reply down below,
so you can point us into the right direction and we can keep better track of your reviews and of the status of your Reading Challenge.
Please remember that if you don’t post about the book on the Book Club, then the book won’t count towards your Reading Challenge. It’s not enough to just pledge without writing about it!
You can keep track of your progress by checking our official spreadsheet
. If after a couple of days you see that the spreadsheet hasn’t been updated, please feel free to drop me (Gus) a message informing me about your progress and I will gladly add you to the sheet.
Please follow the guidelines above and start pledging now! Happy reading everyone!
