The first thing Riliey did upon arriving at Hogwarts was sneak off to the Library. She had spent the majority of the last school year in St. Mungo's after suffering a nasty acromantula bite, and felt that her studying skills were a bit rusty. This was also her second attempt at her Fifth year, which meant the second year in a row she had started the school year nervous and worried about OWLs, and she was determined to not go through this a third time.

With a stack of books under her arms, she hurried to the great hall and found she had spent more time in the library than she had meant to. It looked like half the first years had already been sorted! She walked over to the Hufflepuff table, and looked at the faces of the new first years. She felt bad for not being there to cheer in her new house members, so she decided to sit next to them and introduce herself during the feast.

Just as she was about to take her seat something came flying at her head. Startled, Riliey put her hands up to guard her face, sending the books she was carrying into the air around her, the grape only slightly missed Riliey and then continued on its course. She quickly got down to gather her books. "What was that?," she thought to herself, "It was way too big to be an insect."

For Hanna, leaving her home and going to Hogwarts wasn't easy at all. Of course she liked the idea of learning new things and getting to know new people. But she was also very nervous. She didn't know anyone there! She couldn't even imagine what the living conditions were like! Also, her destiny depended on the will of a hat. The Sorting Hat, of course, was unlike any other hat (and it was also scary), but who knows on what it based its decisions. Her parents told her not to worry and that everything always went smoothly... easy for them to say. Especially after all those "funny" stories about the incidents that happened when they were Hogwarts students.

Thankfully she didn't have to wait long till the sorting. Being in the first part of the alphabet was convenient sometimes. She couldn't even imagine waiting for all those people to get sorted. She'd probably pass out by then.

Hanna's parents were from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw and there was a bit of a rivalry between them concerning where their daughter gets sorted. Her father always told that she was really bookish and creative and her mother valued the hardworking and fair part of her character more. It sometimes seemed to Hanna that there were two parts of her and that her parents would tear her in two at some point.

She hoped the Hat wouldn't rip itself across while sorting her.

She didn't have to worry. At the very moment the Hat touched her head, it cried "HUFFLEPUFF!!!" very lodly. Hanna wondered how the windows and her eardrums didn't shatter. Her ears still ringing, Hanna slowly proceeded to the Hufflepuff table and, absentmindedly passing by a girl with books scattered at the floor all around her, sat at a vacant place and looked at the remote wall, thinking about her parents' reaction and lots of other things.

Ashley had decided to skip the sorting ceremony this year in hopes of getting ahead in quidditch and homework. This year was going to be her highest in points yet. She had just started flying around the quidditch pitch when she heard someone yelling at her. Apparently, Heads of House don't approve of people skipping ceremonies. After a quick change in the RQT locker rooms, she ran to the great hall, arriving just in time to see a new Ravenclaw by the name of Joey. Ashley used this as a distraction to sneak in and sit beside Kyrie, who for some reason was sitting with the Ravenclaws and not the professors

Amy hastened towards the Great Hall, eager to get there before the Welcome Feast started. As she opened the door that allowed for easy access to to the staff table, Amy paused on the threshold, acutely aware of the significance of that very moment. She had finished her 7th year at Hogwarts just months before had and been torn between working for the Ministry of Magic or coming back as a Professor. She was glad she had decided on the latter as Hogwarts was and would always be her home.

Amy managed to slip in through the door without bringing too much attention to herself. It already looked as though the Great Hall was starting to fill up with some of the older students. She smiled as she caught sight of a number of those she knew from before.

Amy greeted all the Professors and asked how their respective summers were as she slowly made her way to her seat. Soon after she sat down next to the Slytherin Professors, the First Years started to pile in.

Amy saw how nervous a number of them were and she reflected on how she felt the same way as a First Year. She had also been eager to begin her magical education at the same time though. Despite that having been a long, long time ago, Amy felt as though not much had changed. She felt both nervous and excited to be starting her journey as a Professor.

Amy listened to the Sorting Hat’s song with great interest. She was always curious to hear what wisdom it would have to share. It was always interesting to see which House each of the First Years got sorted into.

Judging by how eager some of the First Years, the year ahead would be a great one. She smiled as the Headmaster’s speech echoed her thoughts.

When the food appeared on the table, Amy tucked in, not realising until that moment just how hungry she was. The food was excellent as always.

Arielle couldn't believe it was her last sorting ceremony. Well maybe not her very last, she thought, noticing a few people who had graduated, as well as a few professors, sitting at their house tables. But still, it was her last start of term feast as a student and she was already getting emotional. She knew this would continue all year - she'd have her last first day of class, her last exams, her last trip to Hogsmeade... Of course she hoped to come back in the future, but it wouldn't be the same.

As the sorting begun, Arielle thought of her own sorting, and how nervous she was about making friends and fitting in at the new school. It seemed like so long ago, but at the same time, she wasn't ready for the whole experience to be over. Finally, she took a deep breath and tried to pay attention as the last few names were called. What she really needed to do was just enjoy the ceremony. She pushed her feelings out of her mind, and when the next Ravenclaw was sorted, she cheered loudly, with the rest of the table.

"ARIELLE," Ryan screamed at the top of his lungs as he ran towards his partner in crime before shoving some new first year out of his way to sit next to her. He would check on the child later, but he first needed to make sure she remembered him. lol who was he kidding. He was unforgettable. "Arielle we have so much to talk about, and plan, and ruin, and eat. Wait, when does the food start again?" After seven years you would think the boy would know what time the feast was, but that was probably giving the boy more credit than he deserved.

"Why do you think Kyrie is sitting with us this year? Doesn't she know she's a professor?" Ryan asked in a hushed tone as he looked to make sure his new head of house wasn't within earshot. He had heard that there was a lot of staff changes this year, but he figured asking Arielle in front of everyone wasn't the best idea. He didn't want it getting out just yet that he was already planning to overthrow half of the new staff. He was expecting Arielle to overthrow the other half now that she had even more power.

As the final first year was sorted, the food finally appeared. Ryan immediate starting piling different foods all over his plate. He had a strange feeling that he was forgetting something though. He stopped shoveling food onto his plate for a minute and thought. Nope, he was wearing socks today. He certainly hadn't forgotten his trunk this time. "Meh, must not have been too important," He thought to himself as he resumed piling plates in front of him completely unaware of the first year he had injured just a short time ago.

After waiting for hours, at least it felt like hours to Fumei, she was the next person to be called. While she had been waiting, she had tried to ignore the eyes of Mattie.
Fumei had the feeling that Mattie had figured it out, who she was. But Fumei didn't feel the need to stop with it. She even 'changed' her name to Foamy Spookie. A name that only a few friends knew. So as long that Prof. Cody and Prof. Scarlet weren't paying attention, everything should go according to her plan.

Tarma was done munching on treats for a while. Something interesting had happened. People always walk the way they walk, and facial expressions are the same too, usually -- even if the faces seem different in looks, the expressions remain the same.

She had just spotted a person in the group of Ickles who reminded her of someone. The face was different, the features were not the same as the person she was reminded of, but something about the 'look' on the face.

Who was it she was reminded of?

Oh, right - Fumei. Hmm. Was this a relative of Fumei's, about to try on the Sorting Hat? Sometimes families could be figured out by similar physical habits, ways of walking, expressions. Tarma took a sip of coffee and watched.

Polaris chuckled to herself. She knew that as soon as they got back to the common room, everyone would be talking about the staff. She mentally prepared herself for the chitchat by reviewing the bizarre events of the evening.

Prof. Tarma had traded in her usual black robes, boots, and hat for a stunning creation that was suitable for an extravagant gala. Prof. Rorey showed up looking equally fabulous but more like she was en route to a picnic in the Forbidden Forest! Prof. Kyrie, all grown up and resplendent in her house colors, shocked everyone by sitting at the student’s table. Not to be outdone, Prof. Scarlet and Prof. Cody turned heads by wearing simply adorable twin skirts … erm … kilts. And Prof. Amy surprised everyone by looking like there had never been a time when she wasn’t a chic Slytherin professor!

Polaris shook her head as she came back to the present. Prof. Zoki was earnestly welcoming everyone back home and she laughed with the others when he paid homage to Prof. Dumbledore. “Fasten your seatbelt,” she thought, still laughing. “It’s going to be an interesting year!”

Cia slipped into her seat at the Gryffindor table just in time to see the food appear in front of her. She was late, as usual, although this time she wasn't even sure how she'd managed it. All that she had done was get off the train, get onto the carriages to Hogwarts, taken the teeny tiniest detour so that she could climb the biggest tree by the lake and enjoy the view of Hogwarts for a fraction of a second, and then come to the feast. How on earth they had managed to sort the whole lot of first years in that time was beyond her. Cia scanned the table until she saw the freshly sliced roast pork, and then piled her plate high with it, pouring gravy over the top before she dug in with a smile. No matter how late she was, she was never too late for roast.

Darcey entered the Great Hall late, having been too busy finding out very important information that she needed to know immediately for her continued safe existence ... well, okay, she'd been chatting with her friends and run out of time to drop her stuff off in her room before the feast. She sneaked in through the back door as quietly as she could, wincing as it squeaked a little when she closed it. Spotting an empty seat halfway up the Slytherin table near some fellow SQT members, she made her way towards it and sat down just in time to see Sophia Rudel sorted into Slytherin. She looks promising, Darcey thought, watching the younger girl smile enthusiastically as she joined their table.

Darcey tuned out slightly as the ceremony continued, only vaguely hearing the rest of the students being sorted and Prof Zoki welcoming them all to a new school year. She remembered her own sorting from all those years ago. With her capacity for mischief and tendency to manipulate people into doing what she wanted (in the nicest possible way, obviously), there wasn't really any other choice for her but Slytherin - despite some friends from Hufflepuff trying to convince her she really belonged there. The Sorting Hat hadn't even considered any of the other houses for her, and that was just the way Darcey liked it. As the food started to arrive on the tables, she looked around at her friends and housemates and smiled. Yes, this was where she belonged.

Has Fumei saw Hanna Inari walk towards the Hufflepuff table, she heard the next name being called. It took her a little while before the name sank into her mind. "Foamy Spookie" was the name that was being called towards the Sorting Hat. A bit distracted Fumei reacted to the name. 'Yes for the moment she was Foamy and not Fumei.'

In a steadily motion, Fumei walked towards the Sorting Hat and sat down on the stool. She waited while the Sorting Hat was put on her head. And then, for the second time in her life, the hat sat on her head. She sat still, hoping for the hat to not notice who she was and just do his usual weird thing. Which was rambling and yelling out the house she belonged to.

'Mmhm a familiar person...' She suddenly heard in her head. 'Didn't you sit on this stool 5 years ago?' She heard the ancient sounding voice in her head. 'No... You don't know me' Fumei thought back to the head. 'You sure? You seem very familiar, and I remember all and all remember me.' The ancient voice mumbled. 'You know its not done to sit twice on this spot for the ceremony...'

'I'm not here for the second time.' I thought back to the hat. And before Fumei even knew what was happening it had been called through the whole Great Hall. "FUMEI SHIROKURO" Fumei blinked a bit not really getting that the Sorting Hat just had yelled who she was. She put up a little bit of a cracked smile towards everyone. "Busted?" Fumei grinned, while she slipped from the stool.

So, that girl was putting on the Hat.

Tarma watched. And listened. And almost snorted coffee out her nose.

It WAS Fumei. Why, that little [would be censored by McNish so censoring it ahead of time].

Good. Good. Things were still lively around here. The Sorting was almost done. FOOD would show up soon. Enough of the munchies, let's have some bouillabaisse!

Hermione was nervous. Well, nervous was a bit far from how she actually felt. She was absolutely terrified, this would be the most important day in her life until now and she was minutes away from finding to which house she will belong. Depending on that, her whole life will change. Will she be in Gryffindor? "Nah... I've never been brave." Ravenclaw, maybe? "I don't think I'm smart enough." Hufflepuff? "Mom was pretty sure that would be my house. She even bet for it with dad." Slytherin? "I think I could see me as one of them."

When her name sounded in all the Great Hall, she took a deep breath and one after another, her feet began to move towards the Sorting Hat. She sat and just the second the hat was put on her head, it said out loud: HUFFLEPUFF.

Hermione got up with a wide smile on her face and run towards her new home.

Kathren was jolted back to reality towards the end of the sorting ceremony. She had basically been on autopilot since getting off the train. The last couple of weeks had been spent reading the books that she would need for the classes that would start the next day, and she couldn't wait to start the practical lessons. She ended up sitting near another second year at the feast, but she didn't really know her that well since she wasn't very social last year. She couldn't believe how scared the first years looked, but she supposed that she had probably looked the same way just the year before at her own sorting ceremony. She hadn't really known where she would have been then, but now she knew for a fact that she definitely belonged in Ravenclaw. After all where else could you study in a common room that seemed to work perfectly for that.
