Disney Discussion #3

Postby Prof. Gustavo Flores » Tue Aug 18, 2015 5:08 am

Remember that this option is worth 10 POINTS!

Watch the video from the website and answer the following:

Analyze Frollo’s character and answer the following:

What do you think of Frollo’s “double nature”? In a way, he seems to care about Quasimodo: he has lunch with him and tries to protect him from out there. But his actions also reveal something else, something that is not right. Why is that? Or do you think that his care for Quasimodo is just fake?

There is no right or wrong answer, just please explain your reasoning and thoughts. At least 100 words for full marks. Please post your answer in the correct thread in our Class Forum.

When it comes to Frollo, I do think he cares about Quasimodo in a way that Quasimodo “obeys” on how he thinks. Frollo himself is a fragile person who is trying to change the world in his own image…trying to say “God is everything and I obey God.” When Quasimodo got involved with gypsies, which even in the old days were considered along the lines of witchcraft and as an association with Satan himself, Frollo began to lose “himself,” clouded by what he strongly believed in. In a result, he thought of Quasimodo was corrupted by being around Esmerelda, by her being the first one in the world he was shunned from showing him kindness, and he needed to save Quasimodo from the gypsies.

The lesson mentioned on the beginning of Frollo's care of Quasimodo, which is sort of a punishment he is willing make for killing Quasimodo's mother. He could still be carrying the despise and anger to the Gypsies and poring it to Quasimodo. Maybe he realized that there is the stain of murder in his hands, however kind he could be to Quasimodo and that could cause his change of moods in regards to Quasimodo. It might be hard for him, after all, he is a respected man of the Church. In the end, the betrayal he felt when Quasimodo sided with Esmeralda fueled his anger further, resulted to more sins made by him.
