Week 9 - Stitchstock

Post by Prof. Arielle Lemoyne » Mon Oct 26, 2015 2:22 am

Week 9's broom game is Stitchstock! In stitchstock, one player goes up against all of the others - this player is responsible for guarding an inflated dragon bladder that's at the top of a 20-foot pole. All of the players are on broomsticks, and while the guardian tries to defend the bladder, the other players try to puncture it by flying into it with the pointy ends of their brooms. Once the bladder had been punctured, the bladder-guardian gave up, or the bladder-guardian successfully hexed all of the other players, the game would end.

For the IRC version of this game, we'll be playing 1 vs all rounds (that is, one person will be on a team alone, while everyone else is on the other team). For each round, there will be a series of trivia questions. For each question, the bot will choose one person from each team to answer - obviously the person playing alone will have to answer every question, but the person answering for the "everybody" side will change. The first person to answer correctly gets 1 point, and the first "team" to 10 points wins that round! (Depending on how many people show up, we may have more than one group, or change the number of points needed to win, but that's the general idea of the game!)

If you're not too enthused about being a "team" of one, don't worry, we're not going to make you take on that role if you don't want to. We'll ask for volunteers (and encourage people to try it out, because it's fun and good experience, no matter what happens), but if someone doesn't want to volunteer, they're more than welcome to stay on the "everyone" side.

If you need any help getting on IRC, feel free to send Arielle or Mattie a message and we'd be happy to help you get you started!

As always, all participants will receive beans from this week's sponsors. If you're interested in sponsoring this week, please send a message to Arielle and/or Mattie, letting us know the name you would like to donate in and the number of beans you want to contribute for the week!

The dates for Stitchstock are:

1. Saturday October 31 at 2 am HOL time / Friday October 30 at 9 pm EST
2. Saturday October 31 at 9 pm HOL time / Saturday October 31 at 4 pm EST

Unfortunately, Stichstock week has come to a close. Or well, I suppose that's actually fortunate if you've been suckered into being a bladder-guardian... but I digress.

Thanks to everyone who came out to play! Thomas Lewis, Kathren Johnsun, Will Lestrange, Ivelisse Ada, Allyson Celestra, Prof. Cody Lewis, Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis, Prof. Tarma Amelia Black, Bull J. Johnson, Maxim Trevelyan, and Ashley Margaret!

Each participant will receive 350 beans, courtesy of our sponsors!

For our first evening of matches, we started with a quick practice round to get everyone warmed up, then asked for volunteers to act as "bladder-guardian" and be the "one" in a 1 vs everyone else match.

We had four brave volunteers, who all won their matches! Will Lestrange (15-8), Thomas Lewis (15-13), Cody Lewis (15-2), and Scarlet Leslie-Lewis (15-13).

For the second evening's matches, we again began with a warm up round before asking for volunteers.

This time around, we had three volunteers (one may have been slightly coerced, but that's beyond the point). Again, all volunteers managed to come out on top and win their matches! Will Lestrange (15-13), Scarlet Leslie-Lewis (15-2), and Tarma Black (15-12).

Our sponsors for this week were:
Maxwell Shadow
Za'Lord's Guard - Pizza or Death! (Prof. Tarma Amelia Black)
The Giant Squid (Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis)

... and some random trout.

By random number generator, the winner of the sponsorship drawing is... Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis!

Please join us next week for the BEST game - Quidditch!
