Week 4 - Swivenhodge

Postby Matilde Rayne » Sun Sep 20, 2015 12:42 am

This week, we're taking a break from the kind of dangers our athletes faced the past couple of weeks. That's right - no falling rocks, no fire, not even any tackling of other players. All we ask for you to do this week is to fly backwards on a broomstick without crashing; you all can do that, right?

Our next game is Swivenhodge! In an actual game of Swivenhodge, players go one on one, sitting backwards on their brooms and hitting an inflated pig's bladder back and forth across a hedge using the brush ends of their brooms. Each time your opponent misses the bladder, you get a point, and the first player to 50 points wins. For our IRC adaptation of Swivenhodge, after a warm-up round, we're going to pair up participants and have a series of 1 vs.1 botting rounds; in each round, the first to 10 points wins! (Depending on number of participants or other potential factors, the number of questions may be adjusted, but the same general 1 vs 1 structure will carry through.)

If you need any help getting on IRC, feel free to send Arielle or Mattie a message and we'd be happy to help you get you started!

As with last week, all participants will receive beans from this week's sponsors. If you're interested in sponsoring this week, please send a message to Arielle and/or Mattie, letting us know the name you would like to donate in and the number of beans you want to contribute for the week!

The dates for Swivenhodge are:

1. Saturday September 26 at 2 am HOL time / Friday September 25 at 9 pm EST
2. Saturday September 26 at 9 pm HOL time / Saturday September 26 at 4 pm EST

If you are interested in playing, sign up below! Please include whether you expect to come for Match 1, Match 2, or both!

I am free both days but it seems like I always forget about Friday's match, so maybe just put me down for Saturday's? >>

[If one of you poke me I can be at both!]

I'll be there for match 1 but can't be there for match 2. Sadly I'm always at work for match 2's.

Our Swivenhodge matches have concluded!

Congratulations to each of our competitors: Cody Lewis, Allyson Celestra, Ivelisse Ada, Tarma Black, Will Lestrange, Rosemarie Halliwell, Scarlet Leslie-Lewis, Ryan Granger, Maxim Trevelyn, Darcey Goode, Ashley Margaret

Thanks to our sponsors, each player will receive 350 beans!

In Swivenhodge, we had players go head to head in 1v1 botting challenges - the winner would be the first player to score ten points.

At the 2am game, we started with a preview of next week's event, Cascade, and then when a few more people came, we had time for some swivenhodge matches! Here are the winners of each match-up:
Aly vs Ive
Arielle vs Tarma
Will vs Rosemarie
Cody vs Scarlet

At 9pm, everyone got to play 2 rounds of swivenhodge! Here are the winners:
Will v. Ashley
Will v. Cody
Ashley v. Cody
Ryan v. Maxim
Ryan v. Darcey
Maxim v. Darcey

Well done to all of the participants!

Once again, we'd like to show our appreciation for this week's sponsors:
Gambol and Japes
The Apothecary
Za'Lord's Guard - Pizza or Death; Holyhead Harpies; Puddlemere United
Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans
Maxwell Shadow

By random number generator, the winner of the sponsorship drawing is…Prof. Tarma Black!

Thanks again to all of our players, sponsors, and spectators! Hope to see you all next week for Cascade!
