Despite the different time, date, and time zone, we had an identical list of people show up this time as last time (and don't worry, I finally brought my proper broom to the occasion ;)).

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne
Prof. Cody Lewis
Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

This time, we started with a round of "monarch" (which is like Creaothceann except everyone can answer every question) and finished with two rounds of "CAB" (random one on ones); in the first round, the "heads of house" utterly demolished us "tails" and the second round... was a lot more interesting.

Our next pickup will be in a week and a half, trying a somewhat earlier Saturday time slot. We will be meeting in #quidditch on...
Saturday, March 25 at 8 PM HOL!

(NOTE: This is JUST before the clocks shift forward in Europe; as such, the American timeslots for the next match are 4 PM Eastern, 3 PM Central, 2 PM Mountain, and 1 PM Pacific.)

Upon reflection, 8 PM HOL may not have been the best time for a weekend pickup match. While 3 houses were represented, we had a fairly low turnout. The following people showed up:

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne
Maxim Trevelyan
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

and for the first time in a long time, the practice Quaffle came out to play! The pickup ended up being a 1v1 match where I got in some practice as a referee, and in the end, a wide mouthed tree frog caught the Golden Snitch!

Our next pickup will be in a week and a half, in a "Tuesday evening" time slot. We will be meeting in #quidditch on...
Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 AM HOL!

(NOTE: This is AFTER the clocks shift to summer time in Europe; as such, the pickup will be at the following times in American time zones: 10:30 PM Eastern/9:30 PM Central/8:30 PM Mountain/7:30 PM Pacific. In other words, this will be at the exact same time as the last Tuesday pickup in American time zones, even if the HOL time displays as something slightly different.)

It was a very interesting night for Quidditch this evening; we saw some new blood, which is always great - and 3 houses were represented! The following people showed up:

Blade J. Johnson
Kendra Goyle
Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

The theme for this time was "catching fire": we began with some of the braver players playing Aingingein. Canon Aingingein involves racing through a sequence of flaming barrels without catching fire; our version involves answering a series of 20 questions (selected to have shorter answers) as quickly as possible. A record may or may not have been broken, but we'll never know for sure ;).

Then we split up into teams for Quodpot (this is the game where people are randomly eliminated if they answer the "wrong" questions correctly)... but with the Aingingein question set. The teams were "students vs professors", with each team winning two games - and everyone getting some questions correct!

Our next pickup will be in a week and a half, in our old Saturday time slot. We will be meeting in #quidditch on...

Last afternoon was a "choose your own adventure" type of day for Quidditch, with a wide variety of questions asked and games played! The following people showed up:

Aurelia West
Katelin Ross
Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

We began by playing a few rounds of "xany": this is a game where the first three people to answer a question get points. Everyone there had the opportunity to choose a round, and we even finished with a round of "Cascade", where you need to guess which of multiple correct answers are the one the bot is looking for!

Then we split up into teams - students vs professors - for two separate games: first, the "CAB" game (one-on-ones where, for each new question, the bot chooses a random representative from each team) and then Quodpot, where I exploded on the third question! The students edged out the professors on CAB, but the professors rode a round of wild explosions to a rout on the Quodpot side.

Our next pickup will be in a week and a half, in our "Tuesday evening" time slot. We will be meeting in #quidditch on...

(NOTE: This is on Tuesday, April 24 in US time zones.)

Last evening was a chilly, dark, rainy night (fraught with chilly mist) with Dementors circling the pitch. Despite that, we still had representatives from three of the four houses come out to play:

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne
Kendra Givens
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

We began with a round of "horse", in which knowledge matters more than speed: everyone has the full 30 seconds to answer every question and the goal is to get as many questions as you can before missing five and spelling "HORSE".

Then we divided into our usual teams for a few rounds of Quodpot: two with the normal question set and one with the crazy Cascade set!

Normally we'd have our next pickup a week from Saturday, but I will be spending that afternoon flying on a plane - so let's try the following time to meet in #quidditch:

Let's have another pickup session next week, meeting in #quidditch at a slightly different time:
Sunday, May 7 at 9 PM HOL!

Despite the bots acting up last afternoon (to the point that Parseltongue was required to tame them), last afternoon's Quidditch events were a rousing success. We had ten people show up, of which seven (including all four houses and at least one brand new player) actually played in at least one of our little games! The following people showed up (a * after your name means you played):

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne
Ashley Margaret
Gail Allen *
Kendra Givens *
Katelin Ross *
Patrick James *
Ravariel Aiwince *
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black *
Vanessa Tilley
Will Lestrange *

We began with a few rounds of "xany" (as usual, the first three people to answer here score points). Then we divided into teams based on current food cravings: Team Pizza faced off against Team Desserts for a few rounds of Quodpot. Despite being outnumbered in a game where numbers really matter, Pizza won two out of the three matches.

As usual, our next pickup will be in a week and a half in #quidditch at our "mid-week night" time slot:

This evening, we had a great turnout on the Quidditch pitch! Eight people showed up (representing three Houses), of which six actually played in our little games! The following people showed up (a * after your name means you played):

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne *
Aurelia West *
Kendra Givens
Katelin Ross *
Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis *
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black *
Vanessa Tilley

We began with some rotating broom races ("rotating" means if you win one race you have to sit the next one out) before we brought the Quod out to divide into teams: when three people chose the letters "W", "A", and "R", it became natural to make this a battle of "War vs Peace". Peace won the first match fairly comfortably and War won the second match with room to spare. The third match, though, was a lot closer... War came from behind to pull out an 8-7 win!

Our next pickup will bein a week and a half in #quidditch at the same weekend time slot we used last time..

This afternoon, we had a fun time on the Quidditch pitch - with three houses represented! The following people showed up:

Prof. Amy Lupin
Prof. Cody Lewis
Katelin Ross
Patrick James
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

This time, the only ball that came out was the Quod: we played a few games of Quodpot featuring "early" and "late" as the teams (depending on the position of the names in the alphabet, with a fun twist at the end). Each team won two of the four matches, though the Quod seemed to treat some players a lot better than others.

There is only one pickup left before the end of the school year; the next pickup will be in a week and a half in #quidditch at our normal weeknight time slot:

Last evening featured the final pickup of the 2016-17 season, and it did not disappoint! We had a solid turnout with eight people represented including all four houses. The following people showed up to play:

Prof. Arielle Lemoyne
Aurelia West
Prof. Cody Lewis
Kendra Givens
Patrick James
Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis
Prof. Tarma Amelia Black
Will Lestrange

The theme of the day was "broom games with unusually dangerous balls". We began by strapping cauldrons on our heads for a round of Creaothceann and then we divided into teams for Quodpot. The teams we chose were 1984-themed: after everyone picked a city, we were assigned into either Oceania or Eurasia. Then we unleashed the Quod: first two regular games and then two games adding to the randomness by using the "Cascade" set (where there are multiple right answers, only one of which will be accepted by the bot). Although the first game ended in a tie, Oceania swept the rest of the series, much to the disappointment of us Eurasians.

If you showed up in #quidditch even once for a pickup match this season, thank you for helping make the season so fun and exciting!

Thank you very much, Will, for hosting this.

I enjoyed playing and watching and just having fun. It's fun to meet everyone and play the BOOM game -- and it's particular fun to watch you and Cody get BOOMed.

'Twas good. :)
