Re: Announcing HOL Version 5

Unfortunately, the Chocolate Frog Cards are not a part of the features we have planned for the initial release. The images we currently use are subject to copyright by Warner Bros and we have not obtained permission to use them. But worry not, your cards will be safe and stored until we design our ...

Prepare to Duel!!!

JAKKS Pacific have partnered with Warner Bros to make new wands in the Harry Potter Wizard Training Wand collection! These interactive wands contain motion sensors (like in smartphones and video game controllers) that track the movements of a wizard’s hands and arms as you cast specific spells (11 d...

Another Holiday and a New Quiz!

Today is a another holiday and you know what that means... a new quiz on Pottermore! This quiz test your knowledge on romance in the Harry Potter books! I did so much better on this than I did on the fantastic beasts quiz and earned 100%! They have also provided some articles for you to see which ho...

Re: Week 3 - Discussion: Abridged Books

I really like abridged books, especially on a scholarly level. Part of this is because the majority of abridged books are required reading for the AP/Honors English classes I took in High School. This meant I could still get the themes and plots of the books but spend less time trudging through the ...

Re: Week 2 - Discussion: Do Audio books recreate the Magic of Communal Storytelling?

I partially disagree with Maxim and Aurelia. I think (if you can get the right reader) audiobooks can have those noises and embellishments and you'll really feel like you're listening to a story from an older generation. And I actually have a couple of audiobooks that feature 2 or 3 readers which re...

Pottermore has been busy churning out new Fantastic Beasts info while also getting ready for Harry Potter Book Night (which is today, Feb. 1)! ( Stop by the Book Club and join in on the 2018 Harry Potter Festival to participate in some cool events! ) One of the many things they've added is a new qui...

Re: Week 1 - Discussion: How do you read?

I dislike reading e-books. Most people around me adore them, but I find that I cannot focus on a book in electronic form. No idea why either. I am fine with reading book-length fanfiction on websites, but my attention evaporates when trying to read an e-book. Even on vacation, I rather take half a ...

Re: Week 1 - Discussion: How do you read?

I too am on the "nothing special" boat. I just get a book and read it where I am, at least the first time through. If I'm reading it for something, like homework or the daily trivia in the Dungeons, then I'll read through it again and make notes. I pick my books based on one of two questio...

Re: Book Review: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

I recently discovered this was also a book, as I had only ever watched the beautifully designed Hayao Miyazaki movie! I agree with Vanessa that the pacing was good. As I already knew the story, it didn't draw me in as much as I think it would have if I were learning everything for the first time. I ...

Solving the Crime in the Nick of Time

Father Brown is a kindly Catholic Priest. But he's also a small-town detective! Or at least, he solves mysterious (much to the annoyance of the town police department and real detective.) He is not an Agatha Christie character in a novel, but rather a mini-series super-sleuth brought to life by G.K,...

Re: Early Bird or Night Owl?

I am 100% a night owl, but my 7mo old daughter hasn't figured that out yet :( (Luckily, my husband is a morning person so he gets up with her and lets me sleep for another hour.)

I function so much better at night, or at least I'm bored enough to do more since everyone else is sleeping!

Re: Questions

Does the wall in Nurikabe have to be one connected, consecutive line or can it be lines that are semi broken up, but still connected? Like, if one line branches out kind of like a peninsula or a 'T' would? Basically, does it have to be one continuous wall or can it have segments that you'd have to ...
