OKAY! I put The Game of Kings on hold at the library. If/when I get to the Rivendell point I will let you know where it is, and you can start ;)

I can haz opinions!!! I thought this book was okay. Not fantastic, not horrible. However, The Lightning Thief made me think hard about target audiences and individual reading experiences, why some people love X and hate Y. And that these opinions are all valid. If Percy Jackson were writ...

Bah, tb! Guns, Germs and Steel is totally skippable. Pop- (and incorrect) anthropology. Crime and Punishment is totally worth the read though! On my shelf for the past year: Smoke and Mirrors , American Gods , and Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman a lot of Frank Herbert a lot of Neal Stephenson ...

I'm behind Marilla on the Tiffany Aching love. I'm really excited for the (supposed) final book in the series, I Shall Wear Midnight , which has Tiffany in GASP Ankh Morpork. I love Granny Weatherwax as well... but sadly, the TA books are the only Discworld ones I've read so far. I'l...

Hmm. To go off of Ariel's suggestion, people might also want to check out Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go," not strictly YA though there are young protagonists for much of the book. It's a bit creepy bit in the gentlest way possible, set in a dystopian Britain where (in order...

I just checked now, I'm 42 out of 95. But I was 81 out of 81 when I put it on hold last week. It's probably a good thing, anyway, I really don't have the time to be reading novels during the semester :P and I think I answered my own question re: why the Hunger Games aren't read in sc...

I FINALLY READ IT! No spoilers I promise. (I am a pretty fast reader... and when I find a book that engrosses me I tend to keep reading until I finish, ignoring all calls of nature) I started it this morning on the subway and fifty pages in I'd already cried twice. Let me tell you I haven...

If any of you are close to me, you'll know that I've been raving about GRACELING all weekend. I met Kristin Cashore at a conference, and of course felt that I had to read her book before she gave her keynote speech--which was wonderful. It is all about the complexity of words, and how growin...

AHH!!!!! It was awesome! I am planning to go back next year as well, where they'll have Holly Black. This year's theme was 'warriors', and next year's is 'fairies.' If any of you are sufficiently old enough (over 18 by the day of the conference) pl...

She will be at the Sirens Conference in Vail, CO from October 1-4 :) Google it because of some asinine rule I can't post the link. I'm super excited, cause also attending as guests of honour are Kristin Cashore and (my personal favourite) Sherwood Smith. I'm bringing Trickster's Quee...

Okay, I caved. My brother's had his Wii since summer, but I only started using it around New Year's - and now I'm hooked. This is the first video game I've ever played in my life (pardoning one short bout of Katamari Damacy a few years back) and within two days I was proficient, and ...

What an interesting concept, and I agree. Some books are just tough to get into, but once you do, they FLY. I completely agree with your sister's Rivendell points for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings just has a lot of set up and backstory, designed to be read as "myth&q...

I read Lord of the Flies several years ago (when I was a wee lass) to explore the rational vs. irrational and civilization vs. savagery dichotomies. My memory isn't so good (comes with the being old) so here's what I remember of it: Simon was indeed the "saintly" figure, depending ...

How long ago did you submit it? All trading cards need to be approved by Prof. Ulol Kimil and it sometimes takes a few hours (he needs to get online). After he does, they should show up :)

If it's been a few days you should try contacting him - it's possible it was not uploaded properly.

Perhaps you are unable to feed it because he doesn't like you (does not like her owner, it says). Are frogs pettable? I only have a cat.

Not sure if that is a problem with a script, it could just be that you neglected your frog for a while?

Nonetheless I fed him a bean. Poor froggy.
