Unfortunately I won't be participating this year, but I really enjoyed last year's one. I managed about 12k words in the end and absolutely loved the camaraderie at the write-ins. For anyone thinking of participating, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go. You might end up surprising yourself.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

The surgery was a success, thankfully. I'm finding it difficult to concentrate amidst the pain so I'll only be checking in briefly now and then.

St Mungo's

I'll be having surgery tomorrow and I will be taking a break from HOL while I recover both in hospital and at home. I should be back in a week or thereabouts, but it may take me a while to get back into the swing of things. In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns about the following, p...

Re: What movie coming in out in 2018 are you most excited for?

I saw the trailer of Mortal Engines earlier, and it looks really intriguing. London is a city that's special to me in a lot of ways, and I'm always fascinated by different conceptualisations of it. Based on the trailer, it seems like there's a lot going on in the movie, so I'll probably try read the...

Mobile and Tablet Games

I don't often play mobile or tablet games, but there are a few I've enjoyed, most notably Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Years 5-7 (both on iPad). I recently got into a puzzly game on mobile called I Love Hue , which involves arranging different coloured tiles into a spectrum. I find it can be rat...

Re: Mass Effect

I'm a little further into the original game since I last posted, having completed one or two of the first main quests (depending on one's perspective). I've enjoyed exploring the other planets while completing the various side-quests. I really like how each has a different landscape and there's desc...

September Prompt: Word Creatures

As readers, we're constantly surrounded by words, letters, characters and punctuation. In some stories, such as Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series or Scott Lynch's novella In the Stacks , there are creatures that are the embodiment of words or interact with words in some way, that ultimately intro...
