Re: Monthly Book Discussions

We'll be reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio in May. Synopsis from Goodreads: "I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse." August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5t...

Re: Announcing HOL Version 5

Which discussion boards are you discontinuing? Classes sometimes make use of discussion boards rather than the HOL forum. These discussion boards are currently found under 'Class Discussion' on a particular class's page. Other areas where discussion boards are currently found include the Art and Li...

Re: TV Crossovers

I remember being pleasantly surprised watching an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, when Zooey Deschanel's character from New Girl (Jessica Day) appeared. While I haven't watched New Girl since maybe its third season, I do have some fond memories of the show, so it was nice having a reminder. I looked ...

Re: Harry Potter Legos

Back when the Harry Potter Lego sets first came out some years ago, I bought the Potions classroom set (which came with Snape and Peeves) and another set featuring Harry and Draco, two brooms and the Remembrall. I either lost or gave away most of the pieces that came with those sets (I have Snape, P...

The web address will remain the same. We don’t have a definite date at this stage, but we’ll be keeping everyone posted.

Renovating the Castle

Re: Books that must be translated

Coming at the topic from a slightly different angle, two authors I'd love to see translated into English are Michael Peinkofer and Licia Triosi. Peinkofer was recommended to me by a HOLer some years ago. 'De Tovenaar' (or 'The Magician/Wizard') was his favourite book and he'd read it in Dutch (altho...

Re: Announcing HOL Version 5

Will we keep our Pets? I hope so, because some of my pets go back to 2008. Will the Pet Shop and Owlery still be there? Everyone will get to keep their pets. The Pet Shop will only re-open as part of a later update, along with Hogsmeade. The Owlery will no longer be there, but you would still be ab...

Unfortunately movies can sometimes take as much 6 months or so to come to South Africa's shores. You are correct in that Goodbye Christopher Robin first came out last year. :)

Like Tarma, I'm also really excited for Ready Player One. As an avid boardgames player, Game Night sounds right up my alley (coming out in South Africa this weekend). Other movies I'm looking forward to seeing are Goodbye Christopher Robin and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

There's just over 4 months left for Book Bingo.

Don't forget to post your write-ups in The Bookshelf or Between the Pages. The books you've read won't count as part of the challenge otherwise.

Week 3 - Reading Initiatives

Harry Potter Book Night is an initiative by Bloomsbury to both celebrate the magic of Harry Potter as well as introduce new readers to this wondrous world. There are other initiatives out there to encourage people to read, whether more generally or relating to specific themes or works. At the Book C...

Week 3 - Invent a Game

One way to encourage people to engage with books is have them participate in games relating to them. These can range in complexity and depth. There’s a variety of boardgames, card games and even video games out there that were based on individual works, from Sherlock Holmes, to Shakespeare, Harry Po...
