Re: When You Reach Me - April Book Discussion

I got this book from the library today! One of my first students for Journey of the Hero chose When You Reach Me for their project, so I have read it before (many years ago). I don't remember what happens at all, so let's see how long it takes me to figure out the plot again....

Re: Winter Snitch Tournament: CONCLUDING POST

I suppose it had to snow yesterday in honor of the final match of the Winter Snitch Tournament... Thank you for hosting the tournament and creating so many fun and tricky logic puzzles! It felt really good to be seeking again! Thanks to everyone who reffed one of matches - Cody, Maxim, and Katelin, ...

Re: What's the Latest Movie You've Watched?

Last night, I watched Ready Player One! (One of the perks of an unconventional work schedule is weeknight movie dates.) Even after watching the trailers, I wasn't sure what to expect going into the movie and that turned out to be a good way to approach this movie. Cody and I read the book earlier th...

Re: Battleship

I really enjoyed working with different people. My Flying Dutchman crew was great and willing to help each other out. https://puu.sh/yWIU6/66b045913b.jpg My favorite part of Battleship was when the third task went up. Cody and I wanted to get top performance for our respective positions, so we were ...

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure

My path was A-C-E. I really loved reading the background story that Sky provided for each task. I got stuck on the task for C for awhile. It was History of Magic, so I wanted to write a Hamilton-esque rap. Once I finally sat down and got past "I'm going to write a rap," it actually went qu...

Re: Yule Ball

It was really neat to see the different themes come alive throughout the month. The menus were gorgeous and a delight to read through.

I ended up with a nice amount of beans for the Silver Snake exchange. I feel that I probably should've tried to steal more gifts, but now I know for next time!

Re: HP Concert Series

Of course it would be amazing, however I am concerned if the orchestra would overpower the movie sometimes. I went into the concert thinking that it would be neat to watch the orchestra, but the movie really sucked me in and sometimes I completely forgot the orchestra was there! We do have seats cl...

Re: Fish in a Tree: Chapters 39-51

By working with Mr. Daniels, Ally gains more confidence in her school work. She even tries to complete all of the assigned work when she’s only asked to do half of it. Her confidence also extends to her interactions with other students. She didn’t notice it until it was validated by the election fo...

Re: Fish in a Tree: Chapters 26-38

More than halfway through the book is when Ally asks Mr. Daniels, “But how come I can’t read?” It takes a lot of courage to admit that she wants help. Luckily, Mr. Daniels is studying special education and knows ways that he can help Ally. The Skype scene to talk to Ally’s dad was very touching. It ...

Re: Fish in a Tree: Chapters 13-25

I like that Ally has become friends with Keisha and Albert, who are both positive influences on her. Albert has a more scientific mind and a mature way of thinking. Ally can’t quite grasp his idea that labels don’t necessarily describe the core of an object. She cares a lot more about what others th...

Re: Fish in a Tree: Chapters 1-12

Ally is very sweet and genuine, but misunderstood by her current teacher, Mrs. Hall. Being forced to write makes Ally act out and sent to the principal. She thinks all the other students view her as a dummy or a freak. At this point, no one knows the real issue with Ally. She herself doesn’t really ...

Re: Week 3 - Discussion: Abridged Books

Oh cool! I loved Flowers for Algernon! I believe I first read it in high school and then again a few years later. I had no idea that it was originally a short story. I should try to find a copy of it. There are some books that I think I would enjoy, but I can't get myself to finish because of the au...

Re: Week 3 - Discussion: Abridged Books

The only real experience I have with abridged books was when I was really bored one day and looked through all the bookshelves at home for something to read. My parents moved to the United States from Taiwan in their mid-20s, so they had several boxes of abridged classics, like Tom Sawyer and Moby D...
