Re: Week 3 - Discussion: Abridged Books

I agree with you Gail. I do believe that there are, I like to think of them as “short stories,” out there that do catch some people’s interest. I, personally, would like to see it as another path to reading for individuals who have a difficulty in reading original versions or other versions of the e...

Owning a Creature

If you were to own a magical creature, what would it be and why?

I would love to own a crup because they resemble so much to a dog and I love dogs! Also, they can easily blend into the muggle world.

Re: Week 2 - Discussion: Do Audio books recreate the Magic of Communal Storytelling?

It is interesting how you say that Aurelia. I do believe there are voices out there that can be held for stories directed towards young audiences, younger than fifth graders. It gives them the chance for their “voices be heard.” In addition to this, I really do believe that Audio books help a lot wh...

Re: Week 1 - Discussion: How do you read?

'synonyms' feature. I used that instead of a dictionary, because it would usually get the point across for me by giving me several words that I probably knew a number of, that meant at least vaguely the same thing. It was really useful actually, because it meant I developed a larger vocabulary by a...

If you had a time machine, what time would you travel to?

Say you have a time machine, is there a certain era you want to visit, say the future to learn more about technology? Or perhaps the past?
Me, I would take it back in time to visit the Library of Alexandria to learn more about the lost mathematical knowledge.

School You Want to Visit?

Other than Hogwarts, what would you say is the magical school you really want to visit? Do you want to visit just for fun, as a foreign exchange student, etc.?

True Def of a Vampire

There are so many books out there have different descriptions to what a vampire is. How would you describe a vampire? Are they mortal or immortal? Can they live on animal blood instead of humans?

Re: Another perspective

I completely agree with you Shi. From Hermione's point of view, I think it would make an incredible story! One person I do want to see is Viktor Krum's story. Durmstrang is known for their Dark Arts and I feel like the school is easily stereotyped for many negative things. Krum is a "rare"...

Book over Movie Adaption

Is there a book that you prefer over its movie adaption?

I do think there are books out there that are better than their movie productions. One of these is Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand, a true story regarding a prisoner of war.

Re: Favourite Characters

I couldn't agree with you more Marie :) I've always looked up to Hermione as a child and I still do, for her craziness about academics and just being brave. I always enjoy books of female protagonists who are represented with strong character. One series that I always look back on is Vampire Academy...

Re: Where Do You Live?

I have lived in many places, in the USA, regarding my education. I began living in Nebraska, and then began living in Wyoming and/or Colorado for several years. As odd as this may be, I have jumped between Wyoming and Colorado because of my folks' jobs. Now, I am working my way in being a permanent ...

Re: Book Reading Challenges

So, this is a website that has been one of the greatest book websites I have ever encountered called Goodreads . Every year, they have you set a goal (you can go up or down from your original goal). This can range from anything from manga, history type of books, to any genre type of books you desire...
