Re: Week 3 - Roleplay

Aladdin was confused by Officer Reagan's speech. Although he had enjoyed stealing things in the past, he had never heard of the "One Ring" mentioned by Officer Reagan. For now, he was deciding to wait for the questioning to begin; even though he had stolen things in the past, he knew he didn't steal...

Re: 2018-2019 Quidditch Pickups Thread!

Today it was time for the third pickup of the season! The turnout count wasn't the greatest, but we still had lots of fun nonetheless - and a smaller crowd allowed us to complete more games! We began with three rounds of Xany: in between our standard rounds with the regular question set and the Casc...

Re: Week 2 - Roleplay

It was finally time for Aladdin to say his piece. Looking at James Kirk, he responded: "But does heroism require sacrificing yourself for the greater good? If so, then I must admit that I would not be considered a hero!" "To be a real hero," he continued, "you need to look out for yourself as well: ...

Re: Week 2 - Roleplay

Aladdin realized that as he had been waiting, the conversation had shifted quite a bit and several new people had arrived. Han Solo's description of survival had sounded like it made sense to Aladdin, but Han was nowhere to be seen today. Instead Aladdin moved closer towards Robin Hood, who seemed t...

Re: Week 2 - Creative

I have had the most success in the past with lamps : after all, lamps can often contain genies who are more than willing to help you out when you need it! And even if a lamp has no genie in it, it still has the power of bringing light to darkness. If I'm not lucky enough to find a lamp in my surviva...

Re: Week 2 - Roleplay

Hearing the others speak about helping others, Aladdin realized that no one yet had shared opinions that were close to his. Aladdin's thoughts were as follows: he needed to think about himself first and foremost; once he finally found himself on secure ground? Only then could he move towards trying ...

Re: Week 1 - Creative

1. To you, what makes a hero? Do you consider yourself one? To me, a hero is someone who is willing to work against oppressive forces of evil, even at personal cost. I would say that I meet that description, even if not all of my actions are heroic. 2. What do you consider your greatest achievement ...

Re: 2018-2019 Quidditch Pickups Thread!

Tonight it was time for the second pickup session of the year, and even if the turnout wasn't quite as impressive as last time's, it was still filled with all sorts of excitement and explosions! We began by testing the limits of the bots with the botting racing game known as Xany (if you're one of t...

Re: Week 1 - Roleplay

Aladdin was remembering that when push came to shove, he was more comfortable among thieves than among royalty, at least for now. So he went up to the food table where the most delicious looking cakes sat, ate one, and stashed three more in his pockets for later.

Re: Week 1 - Roleplay

Aladdin had a feeling that he probably should be getting to know the other guests at some point, but he realized that he was still dressed like a street urchin so it would probably be better for him to keep a low profile until he could change into his more impressive sultan clothing. For now, he dec...

Re: Week 1 - Roleplay

Upon entering the room Aladdin realized he was far from alone: there were so many people who could have posed a challenge to him. He thought about how now would have been a great time for him to get another wish from a genie, but he put that thought to rest at the moment. Instead, he headed over tow...

Today we had the first pickup session of the academic year, and it was a rousing success... with every house well-represented! We began by getting out our cauldrons for a quick game of Creaothceann, and then we decided to divide into teams by discussing our favorite types of weather. While no one li...

Re: Changing house and/or name

The process for changing your house is known as "Squibbing" and is detailed in the "Squibs" subsection of the HOL handbook (which can be found under the "Houses" section). The procedure involves spending 5 school months with a special status, "Squib", which means you're not affiliated with a house. ...

I'd love to see a class on the finer points of IRC (including IRC code and scripts)! I also hope to see the Parseltongue class return, but I always had the feeling that I would be the one who ended up bringing that one back ;)

Pickups for 2018-19: SURVEYING THE AUDIENCE

It's the start of the new school year, and - once again - we'd like to run Quidditch pickups on a semi-regular schedule! To this end, I'd like everyone who's interested in participating in pickups to answer the following two questions: 1) What days and times tend work best for you (using HOL time)? ...
